Richmond is 38 miles (61 km) northeast of downtown Detroit, 16 miles (26 km) northeast of Mount Clemens, the Macomb county seat, and 26 miles (42 km) southwest of Port Huron, the St. Clair county seat. Highway M-19 passes through Richmond as its Main Street, leading north 6 miles (10 km) to Memphis and south 7 miles (11 km) to New Haven.
Max & Erma's is an American casual dining restaurant chain based in Columbus, Ohio. As of April 2024, the company operates seven locations in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, down from a peak of 110 restaurants across more than 12 states in the mid-2000s. The Western House remained in business as a boarding house with an occasional restaurant, although the halting of rail passenger service in 1948 reduced its customer base. In later years it was a bar and rooming house. In 1985, the building was rehabilitated to provide office space on the ground level and rooms for rent on the upper floors. [3]
Rudyard Kipling's last outing in 1936 was to Burgh House, to visit his daughter. [1] From 1937–46 Burgh House was unoccupied. It was bought and restored by Hampstead Borough Council in 1946. The barrack blocks in front of the building were pulled down and in 1947 it reopened as a community centre with a Citizen's Advice Bureau in its basement.
