MTV Base was a British pay television music channel from Paramount Networks UK & Australia that focused primarily on hip hop, R&B, grime, garage, reggae, funk, soul and dance music. It was launched as part of MTV's digital offering of music channels on July 1, 1999 in both the United Kingdom and in Ireland .

The network also carries the American and European awards ceremonies of MTV and BET. On 3 July 2013, Viacom International Media Networks Africa launched a localised feed of MTV Base exclusively for South Africa, [2] with local programming, advertising and VJs. [3] It launched on DStv on 5 March 2019. [4]
MTV Base Africa also promoted MTV Europe and aired some of its reality-based programmes. 2012 – MTV Base and its other sister channels increased its promotion of MTV (which had already started airing less of music and more of reality shows) by airing its promos and also opened a Facebook and Twitter page named MTVONDSTV.

MTV Base Player is a weekly digitally driven music and news show presented by MTV Base Africa VJ Sizwe Dhlomo. The show features international entertainment news and content with a Pan-African focus. In January 2011, MTV Networks France launched services related to MTV, MTV Base, Nickelodeon and Game One for use on Philips connected TV sets. Each channel offers access to free video contents, news and trailers from brands MTV, MTV Base, MTV Pulse, MTV Idol, Game One, Game One Music HD, Nickelodeon and Nickelodeon junior.
