Dodge was platted in 1886 when the Fremont, Elkhorn and Missouri Valley Railroad was extended to that point. [4] It was named for George A. Dodge, a pioneer settler. [5] [6] Dodge was incorporated as a village in 1887. [7]
US 275 enters Nebraska in Omaha in the South Omaha neighborhood paired with Nebraska Highway 92. It goes through Omaha as a four-lane highway until meeting Nebraska Highway 31 . The street designations for US 275 in Omaha are, from east to west, Missouri Avenue, L Street, Industrial Road and West Center Road.
It remains a two-lane highway except for two sections near Fremont, which are four-lane divided highways. The expressway north of Fremont is shared with US 275 and Nebraska Highway 91 (N-91). Eastbound Exit 76 runs directly into the business routes on West Verona Avenue, while westbound Exit 76 connects to the business routes by way of Epic Lane. From there, the business routes run east-northeast as a four-lane divided highway until the intersection with Legion Street, where it becomes a local two-lane undivided road.
Nebraska Highway 79 begins northwest of Lincoln near Lincoln Municipal Airport at U.S. 34. The highway goes north into farmland, then northwest and meets Nebraska Highway 66 in Valparaiso . It goes north until meeting Nebraska Highway 92 , with which it runs east concurrently for one mile (1.6 km).
At the split, K-9 continues west to Lenora, and US-283 resumes a straight northerly direction until the city of Norton, where after crossing U.S. Route 36, it reaches Nebraska 11 miles (18 km) later. With the exception of small sections in Dodge City, all portions of US-283 in Kansas are two-laned.
