In January 2005, Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan (BZU) established a sub-campus in Sahiwal inaugurated by the then Governor of the Punjab in 2005. In 2015, Provincial Assembly of the Punjab passed an act under which sub-campus was upgraded to a full-fledged university named University of Sahiwal. [2]

The college was established in 1942 in a rented building on the city's circular road, initially offering arts classes at the intermediate and degree levels. [4] [5] Science classes at the B.Sc. level were introduced in 1950, and the college was affiliated with Punjab University, Lahore, until 1975 when it became affiliated with Bahauddin Zakariya University in Multan.
