A National University Act was passed in January 2011 to establish the first university in the Maldives. [4] Institutions offering higher education in the Maldives are: Maldives National University, which was previously known as the Maldives College of Higher Education.
In addition, an outreach center under the Faculty of Open Learning of Maldives National University was recently established in the island. The center currently offers foundation, diploma and degree programs in the field of business, judicial administration and education.
