Adopt a shelter pet. The Maryland SPCA’s adoption center is open to the public! You can apply for a pet online before coming to the shelter. However, please be aware: an online application does not reserve a shelter pet. All adoptions are first-come, first-served in person at the shelter. Here’s how it works:
Fees include spay/neuter surgery and first vaccinations. Note: The Maryland SPCA does not accept personal checks for adoption fees. We do accept Visa, Mastercard and Discover. Forget-Me-Nots: $25. Dogs over 25lbs: $150. Small dogs (up to 25lbs): $275. Puppies (under 6 months): $275. Cats: $80. Kittens (under 6 months): $125.
Foster volunteers open their homes to provide temporary care for cats, dogs, kittens and puppies. A quiet, stress-free, loving environment gives every foster pet a better chance at a happy, healthy life with their forever family.
If you still are unable to keep your pet, the best options are to rehome them yourself or to utilize an online rehoming assistance portal. Rehoming your pet keeps them out of an animal shelter and provides you the peace of mind that you personally selected your pet’s new family.

Introduce dogs to potential adopters. (Morning and evening shifts needed) Provide temporary care for kittens, puppies, cats, or dogs until they’re available for adoption. Be the face of the Maryland SPCA by greeting visitors, sharing program information, and taking go-home photos of adoptees.
The Maryland SPCA is a critical lifeline for pets who deserve a second chance. There is no limit to how long an animal stays in our care. Learn more about our impact in the 2021 Annual Report.
