Cutco has long been accused of being a pyramid scheme due to their recruiting styles and Cutco employees not making much money. However, they’ve been able to dodge such claims because they do offer products and their other employees do make some money enough to be considered “full time”.
I know that the Cutco job is a MLM scam, but my parents do not. Every year they get guilt tripped into buying Cutco knives that are overpriced and not needed. Can everyone please explain how it is a scam so I can show this thread to my dad later.
Vector is actually Vector Marketing, the New York sales arm of a privately held company called Cutco, which manufactures kitchen knives and claims over $200 million in annual sales.
Cutco knives are a legitimate product, and Cutco sales reps only get paid on the number of knives they sell (they are not compensated for bringing new people in to the company). Cutco also has a few retail outlets now, including Amazon, Costco, and Cutco.com.

Joking aside, when it comes to the Cutco Knives scam, there is plenty to discuss. First (and to be clear again), as I'm sure you can tell, Cutco Knives (the company) is not a scam. Neither is Vector Marketing. They've both been around for many years.

For the uninitiated, selling Cutco knives — or knowing someone who sells Cutco knives — is a high school and college rite of passage in the U.S. (Technically speaking, the company Kendall worked for was Vector Marketing, the marketing and sales arm of Cutco Cutlery since 1985.)
