Sir Hugh Fraser, 2nd Baronet (18 December 1936 – 5 May 1987 [1]) formerly 2nd Baron Fraser of Allander, was a British chairman of the House of Fraser, Harrods, George Outram and Company, and Whyte and Mackay. He lived at Mugdock, near Milngavie, Scotland.
Fraser was the eldest son of Thomas Fraser, 2nd Lord Lovat (died 1524) and Janet Gordon, daughter of Sir Alexander Gordon of Abergeldie. He enlarged the family's portfolio of lands, purchasing a number of estates and receiving several more as royal grants, including a feu-charter of the lands of Beaufort.
According to James Balfour Paul's 1908 volume 5 of The Scots Peerage, Hugh Fraser, 1st Lord Lovat was the son of Thomas Fraser of Lovat but it is not known who Thomas's wife was. Hugh succeeded his father before May 1455 and as a minor was put under the care of Archibald Douglas, Earl of Moray (d. 1455). [ 1 ]
The Lordship of Lovat has for some time been linked to the Chiefship of Clan Fraser of Lovat.The former family seat was Beaufort Castle in northern Scotland. The numbering of the Scottish Lordship used by Clan Fraser of Lovat differs from the legal numbering in that it ignores the attainder of 1747–1854, with the result that the 16th Lord is termed by them "18th Lord Lovat".

During the Scottish Wars of Independence, Sir Simon Fraser, known as "the Patriot", fought first with the Red Comyn, and later with Sir William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. [18] Sir Simon is celebrated for having defeated the English at the Battle of Roslin in 1303, with just 8,000 men under his command. [ 18 ]
