Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is a double album produced by George Martin, [1] featuring covers of songs by the Beatles.It was released in July 1978 by RSO Records as the soundtrack to the film Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, which starred the Bee Gees, Peter Frampton and Steve Martin.
The film covers all of the songs from the Sgt. Pepper album with the exceptions of "Within You, Without You" and "Lovely Rita", and also includes nearly all of Abbey Road. The production was loosely adapted from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band on the Road, a 1974 off-Broadway production [4] directed by Tom O'Horgan. [5]

Sgt. Pepper 50th anniversary billboard in London. The Beatles' company Apple Corps and Universal Music hosted a preview of the new stereo mix on 10 April 2017. The event was held in Studio 2 at Abbey Road Studios (formerly EMI Studios), the room where the Beatles recorded most of Sgt. Pepper, and was attended by around 100 journalists.
The song appears twice on the album: as the opening track (segueing into "With a Little Help from My Friends"), and as "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)", the penultimate track (segueing into "A Day in the Life"). As the title song, the lyrics introduce the fictional band that performs on the album.
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band on the Road was a 1974 off-Broadway production directed by Tom O'Horgan. [1] It opened at the Beacon Theatre in New York on November 17, 1974 and ran for a total of 66 performances. [2] The plot tells of a Candide-like rock music singer, Billy Shears, who marries Strawberry Fields.
