On June 27, 2001, that format and the WAMJ call sign were sent to also-new 102.5 FM as "Grown Folks Radio." At the same time, 107.5 became WJZZ-FM "Smooth Jazz 107.5". The WHTA call letters were moved to "Hot 107.9" a couple of months later, with all three stations owned by Radio One.
Radio One then completed this acquisition during the fourth quarter of 2004, under the name ROA Licenses (Radio One Atlanta Licenses), which also owned WJZZ-FM, WPZE, and WHTA. WUMJ (97.5 FM, "Majic 107.5/97.5") is a radio station simulcasting an urban adult contemporary format with sister station WAMJ 107.5 FM. Licensed to the suburb of Fayetteville, Georgia, it serves the Atlanta metropolitan area.
In 2011, Radio One changed several of its Atlanta-area stations' formats and call signs; WAMJ moved from 102.5 to 107.5, and began simulcasting its Urban AC format on 97.5 as WUMJ, while WPZE's urban gospel format moved from 97.5 to 102.5. That left WHTA as the only station in Radio One's Atlanta cluster that was unaffected by the change. [8]
WJZZ is a radio station at 88.1 MHz in Montgomery, New York. The station, organized as a 501(c)(3), went off the air in September 2018, due to lack of funding; [ 2 ] the station briefly broadcast again on August 22, 2019, to keep its license.
On October 24, 1960, the station first signed on the air as WJZZ, the FM sister station of WICC. [4] As the call letters imply, the station started out as a jazz outlet. It was the first station to be assigned the WJZZ call sign followed by 105.9 FM in Detroit, Michigan (now WDMK), and 107.5 FM in Atlanta, Georgia (now WAMJ). [5]
