Arvid Kurck (also known as Arvid Kurki; 1464 in Vesilahti – 22 July 1522 in Öregrund) was the Roman Catholic Bishop of Turku from 1510 to 1522. [1] He was a member of the Finnish noble family Kurki of Laukko. Kurck is considered to be the last truly Catholic bishop of Finland before his successors started to hesitantly promote the Reformation.
The medieval Kurki family held the manor of Laukko from least the 14th century to the beginning of the 19th century. A seal of a member of this family is known from the early 15th century. It depicts a common crane, kurki in Finnish. However, the coat of arms of the family, dating from the 15th century, depicts a sword with three stars.
