Lehman College is a public college in New York City. Founded in 1931 as the Bronx campus of Hunter College , it became an independent college in 1967. The college is named after Herbert H. Lehman , a former New York governor, United States senator, and philanthropist.
Lehman offers a variety of athletic clubs and teams for the students. Its mascot is a lion and its colors are blue and orange. Its varsity football, baseball, soccer, track and field and wrestling teams have had success over the years. [citation needed] Perhaps the most followed sport at Lehman is football.
1978 - The CUNYAC was founded as the CUNY Athletic Directions Association (CUNYADA). Charter members included Baruch College, Brooklyn College, the City College of New York (CCNY), Hunter College, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Lehman College, Medgar Evers College, Queens College, the College of Staten Island and York College, effective beginning the 1978–79 academic year.
Lehman Catholic was established in 1970 as a result of the consolidation of Holy Angels High School, established in 1889, and Piqua Catholic High School, established in 1924. The school's colors are royal blue and gold and athletic teams are known as the Cavaliers. As of 2022, the principal is Veronica Gaier. [1]
After winning the 2020 title, Lehman defeated Pittston Area 45-19 in the 2022 championship game and Holy Redeemer 45-34 last year. There was no WVC tournament in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
