State highway M-33 crosses the center of the township, leading south to Atlanta, the county seat, and north to Onaway. Montmorency County (/ ˌ m ɒ n t m ə ˈ r ɛ n s i / MONT-mə-REN-see) is a county located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 census , the population was 9,153, [ 3 ] making it the second-least populous county in Michigan's Lower Peninsula , behind its southern neighbor, Oscoda County .
1903 plat map of Albert Township, Montmorency County, Michigan. Albert Township was organized March 13, 1883, originally including the South 1/2 of Township 30 North, Range 1 East which was released in 1893 to form Vienna Township. Albert Township public schools were established in 1891. [5]
The township is in central Montmorency County, just east of Atlanta, the county seat. State highways M-32 and M-33 cross the township. The two highways lead west together into Atlanta and cross most of the township before splitting on the east side of the township. M-32 continues east to Hillman and Alpena, while M-33 leads south to Mio.
Hillman is a village in Alpena and Montmorency counties in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 605 as of the 2020 census. [2] Nearly all of the village is located within Hillman Township (Montmorency County), with only a small portion extending into Green Township (Alpena County).
The township is in western Montmorency County, bordered to the west by Otsego County. State highway M-32 crosses the southern part of the township, leading east to Atlanta, the county seat, and west to Gaylord. Vienna Township includes two surey townships, Township 30 North, Range 1 East and Township 31 North, Range 1 East, Michigan Meridian.
