Daniel Joshua Gillies [citation needed] (born March 14, 1976) is a Canadian-born New Zealand actor, film producer, director and screenwriter. He played Elijah Mikaelson on The Vampire Diaries and its spin-off, The Originals; Dr. Joel Goran on Saving Hope.
The show revolves around three Mikaelson siblings, Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies), and Rebekah (Claire Holt), [3] collectively known as "original vampires", or simply the "originals". The Originals is set in the city of New Orleans. [2] It was created by Julie Plec. [1] [2]

In season two, after learning of the existence of Elena Gilbert, another Petrova doppelganger, Rose and Trevor travel to Mystic Falls, hoping to trade Elena for their freedom. The two manage to capture Elena and bring her to Elijah Mikaelson, but Elijah kills Trevor before pardoning Rose for her actions.
Elijah calls her bluff but Elena moves on and stabs herself in the stomach. Elijah freaks out, accepts the deal and asks her to let him heal her. When he gets close enough, Elena stabs him with the dagger and Elijah falls dead. Stefan gives Elena his blood to heal her and Damon is also there reminding to not remove the dagger from the body.
Hope blames Elijah for Hayley's death, disregarding the fact that Elijah had lost his memories then. When the whispers in Hope's head grow stronger, Hope visits Declan. Elijah is also there. Hope proceeds to release her anger onto Elijah. Hope confesses to Klaus that by hurting Elijah, the whispers in her head stopped.
