A district of an Indian state is an administrative geographical unit, headed by a district magistrate or a deputy commissioner, an officer belonging to the Indian Administrative Service. The district magistrate or the deputy commissioner is assisted by a number of officials belonging to different wings of the administrative services of the state.

Tengnoupal district :/teŋ-nə́u-pəl/ [a] [1]) is a district in Manipur, India. It is a district which was created in December 2016 by splitting the Chandel district. [2] The district headquarters has been relocated to Tengnoupal). In the 1960s and 1970s, Tengnoupal was the District Headquarters, and it was shifted to Chandel in 1974.
In 1976, the district headquarters was shifted to the town of Senapati, and the district itself came to be called the Senapati district. [12] In 1981, there were three subdivisions in the district: Mao-Maram, based at Tadubi, Sadar Hills West, based at Kangpokpi and Sadar Hills East, based at Saikul. [13]
It consists of an executive, led by the Governor of Manipur, a judiciary and a legislative branch (Manipur Legislative Assembly). Like other states in India, the head of state of Manipur is the Governor, appointed by the President of India on the advice of the Central government. The post of governor is largely ceremonial.
