Anybody have any experience with Great Lakes Firearms (GLFA)? Hello all! Looking to buy my first AR15, and came across some rifles made by Great Lakes Firearms at a local gun store. They were $750 there, but I found a deal online for $573 with free shipping. With tax and transfer fee that would come to about $640.
I recently purchased a .223 Wylde rifle from Great Lakes and took it out to the range to try out. Being this is my first AR purchase, I was a bit excited. While operating the gun, I ran into the issue of the bolt catch being unable to stop the bolt carrier from locking, both with no magazine and an empty magazine.

My first clue would be that they (Great Lakes) don't include any information on the receiver material, barrel material, nothing on the BCG, or if it's a commercial or milspec receiver extension. All we know is that it's an AR-15 with a 16" barrel, someone's free floating handguard, a no name waffle stock, and some kind of Vias-type muzzle ...
You can find them for about 660-700 online. Based on what I’ve read and seen so far it’s kinda conflicting. Some people say they run great whereas others just say their junk. GLFA is about the only company keeping up with the new demand for 450 stuff since some states changed allowing this for deer hunting. Prices are certainly good for guns that are primarily used 1 week per year. You are certainly correct, most ARs aren't set up for bench guns especially with this kind of recoil.

Thanks I’ve shot ar’s that cost $5000 and some that cost $600 and sometimes the feel and fit of models half the price of the expensive ones can be just as accurate and reliable but i has also felt like I was holding a toy with some of the cheap ones and everything loosened up a few shots in so hearing local people are using them without issue is a good sign there are some local builders ...
I got a stainless barrel and cerakote finish 223 wylde. I did notice the milling is a little rough during disassembly, nothing too extreme. At 650$ it seemed like a decent entry level AR w/ stainless barrel and cerakote finish. I have only heard about this company recently. Their selection of 5.56 rifles seems alright.
Great Lakes firearms. Anyone have anything good or bad to say about the ar’s they make? They are a small town operation that is like 15 minutes from where I grew up. I like the idea of buying locally made things but I’d like to hear your thoughts on build quality. They look like decent quality. Depends on how much you value buying local.
