Basketball Superleague was founded in 1991. It is run by the Basketball Federation of Kosovo.

The new mayor elected, Ismet Beqiri, at that time was 38 years old. Beqiri came from a suburb known as Kodra e Trimave, one of the biggest bastions of the LDK in Pristina.
