Lake Tillery is a reservoir between Falls Reservoir and Blewett Falls Lake in the Uwharrie Lakes Region of North Carolina. It is entirely within Stanly County and Montgomery County, NC. The lake was created by impounding the Pee Dee River, which is created by the confluence of the Yadkin River and the Uwharrie River several miles to the north.
In addition to the mountains, the park also contains the Yadkin-Pee Dee River, one of central North Carolina's largest river systems. The river can be seen from the overlook atop Morrow Mountain. Morrow Mountain State Park (in left distance, 5 miles (8.0 km)) featuring Lake Tillery, Hattaway Mountain, Morrow Mountain, and Sugarloaf Mountain.
Tillery is an unincorporated community in Halifax County, North Carolina, [1] that was a plantation and is now home to a museum. [2] Tillery was incorporated as a town in 1889. [3] Franklin Roosevelt's Resettlement Administration instituted a New Deal era resettlement program in the area. [4] In 1936 it was renamed Roanoke Farms. [5]
In 1926, Carolina Power & Light began construction of the Tillery Hydroelectric Plant; the dam built in conjunction with the plant would establish a new lake (Lake Tillery), but would also submerge the bridge. As a result, Carolina Power & Light funded the construction of a new bridge that was overseen by the state.
Lake Tillery borders the town on the east. To the west is the Rocky River. The great natural resources of Morrow Mountain State Park , Uwharrie National Forest , lakes, rivers and streams of the Yadkin - Pee Dee valley are among the many historic and beautiful places to visit.
