The Southern Industrial Institute was founded at Camp Hill, Alabama on September 21, 1898. The school was a non-profit, non-denominational, co-educational institution for rural white youth. In February 1901, the Legislature of Alabama regularly incorporated the school as The Southern Industrial Institute, Inc. by special act.
