The purpose of this non-secret organization was to formulate mature undergraduate opinions on those matters affecting the vital interests of the Sheffield Scientific School, both internally and in its relations with the rest of the university. [1] The first official meeting was held on June 6, 1910.
However, for the university itself, a Student Representative Council (SRC) was formed in 1906, with the name 'The University of Sheffield Union of Students' being first used in 1923.
