Ethernet cable with an M12 X-coded connector in one end and a modular connector in the other. IEC metric screw sized connectors is a family of electrical connectors defined by IEC that are named according to their ISO metric screw thread , namely M5 , M8 and M12 . [ 1 ]
The image of the 7 and 12 pin flat plugs are from the cable entry view (and possibly the images of the round connectors too). Please see reference [2] (VSB1 section 14) for front image. Reference [1] Narva wiring diagrams also have the diagrams cable entry view. If you want the front view images in colour see [3]
Note that different color coding can be used for certain functions, which means that you can not trust the colors mentioned here without measuring the contact and wiring from case to case. In some cases – as in the flat 4-pin or 5-pin connector – it is fairly obvious which color that is connected to which pin.
Pin A is for activation of so-called Blackout Mode. It turns off all the lights except convoy lighting if it is active. The lighting inside the vehicle shall also be extinguished if it is not specifically shaded. Pin C is for Convoy Lamps, which is the special convoy lighting, corresponding to the tail lights, to be used while driving in the dark.
Per UL Standard ANSI/UL 498, a receptacle (any color) with an orange triangle, is an isolated ground (IG) device, where the grounding pin of the receptacle is connected to ground independently of the frame of the receptacle and wiring outlet box. This is also a requirement of the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), Article 406.
7-pin ISO 1724 trailer connector type 12N (Towing vehicle side). This connector uses a mix of pin and socket terminals. Physical design according to standard ISO 1724. [4] [8] The 7-pin connector uses all 7 pins on newer trailers according to the ISO standard. [9] [10] On older trailers there's sometimes a 5-wire setup using a 7-pin connector.
Keying by omitting a pin is also used in 8- (subminiature), 10-, and 12-pin tubes (a variant 10-pin form, "Noval+1", is basically a nine-pin socket with an added center contact). As with loctal tubes, the pins of miniature tube are stiff wires protruding through the bottom of the glass envelope which plug directly into the socket.
Plug and socket connectors are usually made up of a male plug (typically pin contacts) and a female socket (typically receptacle contacts). Often, but not always, sockets are permanently fixed to a device as in a chassis connector (see above) , and plugs are attached to a cable.
