The Chief Secretary Punjab (Urdu: مُعْتَمَدِ اعلٰی پنجاب), also referred to as CS Punjab, is the bureaucratic chief and highest-ranking official of the Government of Punjab, Pakistan. The appointment of the Chief Secretary is made directly by the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Each Department is headed by a provincial Minister (elected member of the provincial assembly) and a provincial Secretary (a civil servant of usually BPS-20, 21, or BPS-22). All ministers and Secretaries report to the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary, who are the Chief Executive. TheChief Secretary Punjab is a BPS-22 grade bureaucrat.
In Pakistan, the position of Chief Secretary (Urdu: معتمدِ اعلٰی) is occupied by the highest-ranking civil servant in each of provinces or administrative units (excluding Islamabad Capital Territory). The Chief Secretaries are the executive administrative heads of their respective provinces.
Jawad Rafique Malik served as the Pakistan Secretary of Industries and Production; from September 2021 to December 2022. Prior to this, he tenured as Chief Secretary of Punjab from April 2020 to 7 September 2021. He served as Communications Secretary of Pakistan, in office from July 2019 to April 2020. [4]
On March 8, 2008, he was promoted and posted as Secretary, Punjab Assembly. [1] [3] During PML-N's government in province of Punjab from 2008 to 2018, he was dismissed from service but Lahore High Court reinstated him. [4] He was posted on deputation as Principal Secretary to Chief Minister of Punjab on July 26, 2022. [5]
