Datsun (UK: / ˈ d æ t s ən /, US: / ˈ d ɑː t s ən /) [1] was a Japanese automobile manufacturer brand owned by Nissan.Datsun's original production run began in 1931. From 1958 to 1986, only vehicles exported by Nissan were identified as Datsun.
Nissan began assembling cars in 1966, when Pressed Metal Corporation began assembly of the Datsun Bluebird 1300. This deal ended after about a year and a half, but by 1968 Motor Producers Ltd. of Melbourne began assembling Datsuns again at their Clayton plant.
The Datsun DS series was introduced in 1950 as the replacement for the Datsun DA. It used Datsun's truck chassis, itself based on pre-war Datsun designs closely based on the Austin Seven . A more luxurious range with the same truck underpinnings, called the DB series , was sold in parallel. [ 1 ]
