Monaco is the default font in the current Python IDLE when used on a Mac running OS X El Capitan. Furthermore, in September 2015, Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan introduced SF Mono, a monospaced variant of the San Francisco font family, as the default monospaced font instead of Menlo. As of MacOS Sequoia 15.2, the version of Monaco included is 17.0d1e5.

Some fonts would vary in appearance with size, with smaller sizes of one font having tremendous differences from the larger sizes which otherwise stayed truer to the outline version - for instance, in small sizes of Monaco lowercase L and uppercase i were bereft of the distinguishing marks present in larger sizes.
This specimen was created with the TrueType release of the Monaco font (version 7.0d1e1, 2013-04-24). The TrueType font was created by Kris Holmes and Charles Bigelow, based on Susan Kare's original bitmap designs.
