Winnemucca Lake is a dry lake bed in northwest Nevada that features the oldest known petroglyphs in North America. Located astride the border between Washoe and Pershing counties, [ 1 ] it was a shallow lake until the 1930s, but was dried when a dam and a road were built that combined to restrict and block water flow.
The highest peak has an elevation of 2,511 m (8,238 ft) which is 1,353 m (4,439 ft) above the elevation of the dry Winnemucca Lake bed at about 1,158 m (3,799 ft). [ 1 ] [ 2 ] The site of Nightingale and its large tungsten mine (abandoned in the 1950s) are at the southern end of the east slope.
The Lake Range is a mountain range located in western Nevada in the United States. It is entirely in Washoe County , and the southern two-thirds are in the Pyramid Lake Indian Reservation . The range runs north-south for approximately 36 miles (58 km) and a width of generally less than 8 mi (13 km).

The north of Grass Valley is traversed by Nevada State Route 294; for 5 miles (8.0 km) into the valley it is paved.It becomes the unimproved road, Grass Valley Road, and goes through the valley center-east near the mountain foothills; 25 miles (40 km) [7] further it reaches Goldbanks (site) at the south terminus of Grass Valley, the northwest region of the Tobin Range.
