Issyk-Kul (Russian: Иссык-Куль) or Ysyk-Köl (Kyrgyz: Ысык-Көл, IPA: [ɯsɯ́q kʰɵ́l]; lit. ' Warm Lake ' ) is an endorheic saline lake in the western Tianshan Mountains in eastern Kyrgyzstan , just south of a dividing range separating Kyrgyzstan from Kazakhstan .
The north is dominated by the eye-shaped Issyk-Kul lake, surrounded by the ridges of the Tian Shan mountain system: the Kyungey Ala-Too mountains to the north and the Terskey Alatau to the south (the 'sunny' and 'shady' Alatau, respectively). To the south are mountains and 'jailoos' (mountain meadows used for summer grazing).
The airport is currently used for agricultural purposes, although there are plans to renovate it as the number of tourists to the southern shore of Issyk-Kul Lake is set to increase. Until 1990, Tamga had regular links with Bishkek, Osh, and Jalal-Abad.
