[28] In the 1990s, Opel was considered GM's cash cow, with profit margins similar to Toyota's. Opel's profit helped to offset GM's losses in North America and to fund GM's expansion into Asia.
In 1933, Opel joined the Nazi Party and soon became an active supporter of it, making financial contributions to the SS and being awarded the title of Patron. In January 1947, he was found guilty by a denazification court and had to pay a large fine. [3] He died the following year. Opel is the grandfather of Rikky von Opel and Gunter Sachs.

Georg Adolf Carl von Opel (31 August 1869 – 16 February 1927 [1]), known as Georg Adolf Carl Opel before being ennobled in 1918, was a German-French [2] bank specialist and industrialist of the Opel family and one of the founders of the German automobile manufacturer Opel.
