Like the Rangpur lime and rough lemon, it is a hybrid of a mandarin orange (C. reticulata) and a citron (C. medica), with the citron being the pollen parent and the mandarin being the seed parent. The fruit is moderately large (around the size of an orange), seedy, round and slightly elongated, and yellow-orange in color. Yukou: Citrus yuko

A citrus called forbidden fruit or shaddette has been discovered in Saint Lucia; it may be the plant described by Hughes and Macfadyen. [34] The name grape-fruit was used during the 19th century to refer to pomelos. [36] It was brought to Florida by the French businessman Count Odet Philippe in 1823, in what is now known as Safety Harbor. [1]
In German, the lumia is called Birnenlimone, Patriarch-Citrone, Süsse Limone [1] or Birnenlumie; in French it is called Poire du commandeur. In Chinese it is called Lu mi (露蜜), in Japanese Rumii (ル ミー), Vietnamese, Chanh Pháp. [1] The fruit resembles a pear in shape, has a thick peel and is not very juicy.
They are known for being sweet and full of flavour. The fruit is primarily used in fruit preserves and dessert pies, [1] and its juice is commonly fermented for wine or distilled into plum brandy. Some 90% of mirabelle plums grown commercially are made into either jam (70%) or eau de vie (20%). [citation needed]
They can be 10–20 centimetres (4–8 inches) in length and 3.5–6.5 cm (1 + 1 ⁄ 2 – 2 + 1 ⁄ 2 in) in width. Abiu may have several flowering periods a year, with potential for both flowers and fruit on the tree at one time. The development time from flower to ripe fruit is about 3 months. [4] The main crop season varies by climate.
