In 1826, Joseph Yerkes, his sons William and John, and members of their family moved from Romulus, New York to Michigan and purchased land around Novi and Northville. One of those family members was Joseph D. Yerkes, the eldest son of William Yerkes. Joseph D. Yerkes was born in New York in 1819, and helped his father farm upon coming to Michigan.
Don Massey’s career started in construction in his home state of Tennessee.In 1955, he moved his family to the Detroit area and began selling cars. Massey was a natural salesman and by the late 1950s had been promoted to used car manager and then general manager at a Chevrolet dealership in Detroit.
William Yerkes, one of the first settlers in the Northville vicinity, arrived in the area in 1826. William's son Robert was born in 1829 and spent most of his life as a farmer. However, in the late 1860s, Yerkes decided to move to Northville so that his children could gain a better education.

[2] The congregation of the Salem Methodist Episcopal Church formed in the mid-19th century, and met at various places in the township until the 25 members constructed a church adjacent to the cemetery in 1864.

Northville Township is a charter township in Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan. A western suburb of Detroit, Northville Township is located roughly 27 miles (43.5 km) northwest of downtown Detroit, and 20 miles (32.2 km) northeast of Ann Arbor. As of the 2020 census, the township had a population of 31,758. [3]
