Sylvia Celeste Browne (née Shoemaker; October 19, 1936 – November 20, 2013) [1] was an American writer and self-proclaimed medium and psychic. She appeared regularly on television and radio, including on The Montel Williams Show and Larry King Live , and hosted an hour-long online radio show on Hay House Radio .
Browne died in 2013. In an appearance on Larry King Live on January 26, 2007, Randi challenged psychic Rosemary Altea to take the one-million-dollar challenge. During Altea and Randi's June 5, 2001 meeting on the same show, Altea refused to take the challenge, calling it "a trick".
Controversial self-declared psychic Sylvia Browne featured frequently on The Montel Williams Show from 1991 until its finale in 2008. Browne correctly warned James Randi of a problem in his left heart ventricle, which he had to undergo emergency surgery on February 2, 2006 ("Insight," Sylvia Browne, Dutton Books, pg. 33, 2006). Although Randi, it seems, is only interested in reporting the 10-15 percent of her inaccuracies.
