Saint Patrick Church is the second-oldest Catholic church building in Columbus. [11] The structure served as the pro-cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Columbus until the consecration of Saint Joseph Cathedral. Holy Family Church is situated in Franklinton, the oldest neighborhood in Columbus. Moeller called upon Father Charles Kessler, then the assistant pastor of St. Joseph Cathedral [2]: 221–222 to organize a new parish from the territory of St. Mary Church [3] under the patronage of St. Leo the Great.
