The Institute of Technology was founded in 1986 as the Fresno Institute of Technology at Clovis. [1] Later the name was shortened to the Institute of Technology. The school now operates three California campuses (Clovis, Modesto, Redding) and one in Salem, Oregon. The institute is operated by Modesto-based Select Education Group. [2]
Both MECHS and MIT were also technology centric, making both schools extremely similar. After MIT closed its doors in 2017, all students had the option to switch to MECHS. Starting with the 2018–2019 school year, Metro received an Early College High School exemption from College Credit Plus, allowing for more flexibility and class options.
Founded as Columbus Area Technician's School in 1963, it was renamed Columbus Technical Institute in 1965 and was renamed again to its current name in 1987. The college has grown from an initial enrollment of 67 students in 1963, to its current enrollment of over 27,000 students over two campuses, nine regional learning centers, and online courses.
