The main practical difference Contender vs bolt handgun is the Contender is about a 40-50ksi action where the bolt action will handle 65ksi rounds. The Encore improved that, but at a huge weight penalty. I think both benefit from moderate sized cases loaded to moderate pressures. 30 Herrett and 375 JDJ are both excellent examples of this!
Bolt action pistol barrels, (generally ranging from 10" to 14" inches) are shorter, and tend to be thicker than long rifle barrels, and so, are "inherently" stiffer.

I had a Savage bolt action pistol in 243 that actually held 2 rounds in an internal magazine. I think it weighed as much as my 20” bbl M94 30-30, I didn’t keep it it for long. I do really like Contenders though.
I'm going to disagree with the majority of posters and say that, if you can find a nice left handed bolt action rifle available, you should get it. I learned on right handed rifles and own a couple of right handed bolt actions, but I can definitely shoot follow up shots faster with my left handed bolt action rifles. It's just easier and less ...
I wasn't aware they were still in business. a friend of mine had the bolt action silhouette pistol in 7 mm IHMSA and while it shot very good . I think in general that the company had a "hit & miss" quality standard from what I remember. this was back in the early 1980's. their prices were also to the affect that they were very proud of their stuff
