Dr. Glenn R. Frye House is a historic home located at Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. It was built in 1937, and is a two-story, Colonial Revival style stone dwelling. In 1972, Hickory High School moved to its current location of 1234 3rd Street NE. The Hickory Board of Education agreed to officially name the new school building its original name once again, Hickory High School. Hickory High is currently classified as a NCHSAA 3A high school. It is the largest school within the Hickory City School district.
The newspaper serves the city of Hickory along with Catawba County and Burke, as well as the neighboring Alexander and Caldwell counties. In 2019, the circulation was 9,372 (weekend) and 7,853 (daily). [4] Starting June 6, 2023, the print edition of the newspaper will be reduced to three days a week: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Hickory entered into a new affiliation with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1999. The Crawdads reached the postseason in five of ten seasons with Pittsburgh. They won two South Atlantic League championships, the first in 2002 and the second in 2004. [4] The affiliation ended after the 2008 season with Hickory going 705–677 over a span of 10 years. [1]
