Richard Allestree, 1684 engraving by David Loggan. Richard Allestree or Allestry (/ ˈ ɔː l s t r iː / AWL-stree; 1621/22 – 28 January 1681) was an English Royalist churchman and provost of Eton College from 1665.
The consensus view of modern scholars attributes the book to Richard Allestree. At the time of publication (towards the end of the Interregnum ) the high-church tradition which it represents was a politically dangerous position.
