Dhaka Medical College has a 2600-bed [28] teaching hospital as Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) within the same compound, with 92 wards. It is a tertiary referral hospital. It has a 300-bed facility dedicated for burn and plastic surgery.

In 1986, the first burn unit was started in the country with six beds by country's first plastic surgeon Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shahidullah in Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
