In January 2013, the river experienced major flooding after ex-Cyclone Oswald passed over the catchment. This time the floods reached 10.7 metres (35 ft) above normal at Maryborough. [10] At Gympie a peak of 20.3 metres (67 ft) was recorded. [10] In 2022, Gympie experienced a flood which peaked at 22.9 metres (75 ft).
