José Rizal University (formerly José Rizal College or JRC), also referred to by its acronym JRU, is a private non-sectarian, non-stock coeducational basic and higher education institution located in Mandaluyong, Metro Manila, Philippines. It was founded in 1919 by Don Vicente Fabella, the Philippines' first certified accountant.
JRU (JRC then) captured the NCAA crown which up to this date is the last time José Rizal won a championship. Years later the two teams again figured in a mini rivalry, San Sebastian's Paul Alvarez and José Rizal's Vergel Meneses figured in a PABL Slam Dunk contest in 1987 in which Meneses won the contest.

The JRU campus, like many others, was turned into a garrison by the Japanese army. This led to many vintage bombs mined beneath the campus, which led to the heavy bombers moniker. The Seniors (collegiate) team adopted the Heavy Bomber , while the Juniors (high school) team adopted the Amazing Light Bombers .
JRU missed the playoffs in 2019. [12] Under the bubble set-up, the Heavy Bombers won just once in the condensed 2021 season. [13] JRU missed the playoffs again in 2022, but defeated Final Four qualifier Letran in their final game. [14] The 2022 season was marked with John Amores going on a punching spree against Benilde Blazers players.
