On a cold and cloudy morning, after a period of heavy rains and thaw, a Floyd County school bus loaded with 48 elementary and high school students bound for school in Prestonsburg, Kentucky struck the rear of a wrecker truck on U.S. Route 23 and fell down an embankment into the swollen waters of the Levisa Fork of the Big Sandy River, where it was swept downstream and submerged.
Knott County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2020 census, the population was 14,251. [1] Its county seat is Hindman. [2] The county was formed in 1884 and is named for James Proctor Knott, Governor of Kentucky (1883–1887). [3] As of 2024 the county is now wet.
Hindman is located just west of the center of Knott County at (37.337174, -82.981147 It sits in the valley of Troublesome Creek , at the junction of its Left Fork and Right Fork.
