A Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is a common name for non-profit animal welfare organizations around the world. The oldest SPCA organization is the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals , which was founded in England in 1824.
In 1896, this group evolved into the Ottawa Humane Society, with the newly established Children's Aid Society assisting the needy children within the community. In 1933 the organization began providing shelter services for stray animals to the City of Ottawa. They continue to hold the municipal contract for stray animal shelter services. [2]
