The Autoglym brand was founded in 1965 by a UK Motor Trade entrepreneur Dennis Barley who developed a unique system for renovating used car paintwork. There were 11 products in the original range, including polishes, a sealant, a paint renovator and glass, interior, engine and wheel cleaners.
The company was acquired by the Ward White Group in 1983, [3] from whom the Boots Group acquired it in 1989. Halfords was later demerged from the Boots Group in 2002. [4] [3] Halfords was taken over by CVC Capital Partners in July 2003 [3] and, in June 2004, it was floated on the London Stock Exchange. [3]
In December 2021, the National Tyre and Autocare garage chain merged with Halfords, a competitor in automotive part sales. As a result, Halfords possessed a combined total of 604 garages and 235 Halford Mobile Expert vans across the UK, providing all types of garage services such as tyre fitting, MOTs, repairs and servicing.

After two days, the treated leather was polished with a soft cloth. Hard leathers can be soaked in a solution of one part British Museum leather dressing: three parts Stoddard solvent. [4]
