Greyfriars was a religious house in St Andrews, Fife, Scotland, in the later Middle Ages. The house was Franciscan (hence "grey friars"), of the Observant (as opposed to Conventual) kind. [1] Founded by Bishop James Kennedy somewhere between 1463 and 1466, it received additional endowments from Kennedy's successor Patrick Graham. [2]

Rusacks Hotel, previously known as Macdonald Rusacks Hotel between 2001 and 2019, is a 4-star hotel in St Andrews, Fife, Scotland, overlooking the 1st and 18th greens on the Old Course, St Andrews Links. When it first opened in 1887 it was known as the Marine Hotel, and shortly afterwards, it became Rusack's Marine Hotel.
The building originally opened as the Grand Hotel in 1895 at the time of a rapid expansion of St Andrews as a popular tourist destination. It was built by businessman Thomas Hamilton, to overshadow the Royal & Ancient Golf Clubhouse, [2] after reputedly being blackballed when he sought membership of the Club. [3]
