Duluth has experienced firsthand the consequences of media consolidation. On March 8, 2005 the sale of Duluth's CBS affiliate was announced to Malara Broadcast Group of Sarasota, Florida . The group agreed to pay Granite Broadcasting Group , which already runs the NBC affiliate KBJR, to take over the operations for KDLH.
It is owned by Gray Media alongside Superior, Wisconsin–licensed dual NBC/CBS affiliate KBJR-TV, channel 6 (and its Chisholm, Minnesota–licensed semi-satellite KRII, channel 11). The two stations share studios on South Lake Avenue in Canal Park , downtown Duluth; KDLH's transmitter is located west of downtown in Hilltop Park.
