Monarch: The Big Bear of Tallac (シートン動物記 くまの子ジャッキー, Seton Doubutsuki: Kuma no Ko Jakki, loosely: "Seton Animal Chronicles: Jacky the Bear Boy") is a Japanese anime television series consisting of 26 episodes, based on the novel Monarch, The Big Bear of Tallac by Ernest Thompson Seton.
A Native American boy from a northeastern tribe (possible the Hopi based on his name's etymology) whose father was killed and family displaced by a man with a snake tattoo on his neck. After being rescued from thugs in Los Angeles, he joins Appare and Kosame while hoping to hunt down his father's killer.
Over opening narration, a Native American boy named Little Hiawatha is seen paddling his canoe down a river – at one point backwards – on his way to hunt game. Upon reaching land, he steps out and immediately falls down a hidden hole in the water, bringing about the laughter of the animals in the forest.
