A cemetery originally occupied what is now the site of the 1851 church and the Lower School. [1] This informal burying ground was established long before Holy Trinity Church bought its land. [8] In June 1796, an additional 20 feet (6.1 m) of land west of the church was purchased, and by 1798 the church owned all the ground west to 36th Street. [9]
Holy Trinity was established as the first Catholic school in the District of Columbia in 1818 by Father John Ralphio lII. [3] At the time, it served only boys. The school closed in 1829, but reopened in 1831. The high school division, opened in 1922, was closed in 1974 due to high operating costs. [4]

It was demolished in 2006. The Spring Hill section of Trinity Hall continues to serve as offices for Trinity Area School District. Today, Trinity is a modern public school housing approximately 1,279 students in grades 9–12 on a campus-style setting.
