Daily temperature fluctuations can result in appreciable changes in tire pressure. Cold inflation pressure should therefore be measured in the morning, as this is the coldest time of day. This will ensure a tire meets or exceeds the required inflation pressure at any time of day.
Prior to 1964, tires were all made to a 90% aspect ratio. Tire size was specified as the tire width in inches and the diameter in inches – for example, 6.50-15. [24] From 1965 to the early 1970s, tires were made to an 80% aspect ratio. Tire size was again specified by width in inches and diameter in inches.
The recommended inflation pressure is found in the owner's manual and on the vehicle's tire placard. [3] [4] Because of slow air leaks, changes in the weather and ambient temperature or other conditions, tire pressure will occasionally have to be corrected via the valve stem with compressed air which is often available at service stations.
For every 10-degree drop in temperature, tires lose one point per square inch, according to AAA. And low tire pressure can be dangerous. And low tire pressure can be dangerous.
The drop in temperatures, especially during overnight hours, can cause the air inside the tires to condense, meaning that it takes up less space. When this happens, the tire pressure — measured ...
A tire-pressure monitoring system (TPMS) monitors the air pressure inside the pneumatic tires on vehicles. [1] A TPMS reports real-time tire-pressure information to the driver, using either a gauge, a pictogram display, or a simple low-pressure warning light. TPMS can be divided into two different types – direct (dTPMS) and indirect (iTPMS).
