Provincial medical entrance exams included the MDCAT conducted by the University of Health Sciences, Lahore in Punjab and Balochistan before the NMDCAT. It was implemented in 1998 as the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) on the initiative of the then chief minister of Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to counter replete cheating in HSSC exams at the time.

Lahore University of Biological & Applied Sciences was founded in 1997. It is registered with and accredited by Pakistan Medical and Dental Council and affiliated with University of Health Sciences, Lahore (UHS). [2] [3] [4] Doctors Hospital, Surgimed Hospital and Ghurki Trust Teaching Hospital are attached as training and teaching hospitals.

The UHSP athletic teams are called the Eutectics. The university is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), primarily competing in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) for most of its sports since the 2014–15 academic year; while its men's volleyball and women's lacrosse teams compete in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC).
