Petit Jean State Park is a 3,471-acre (1,405 ha) park in Conway County, Arkansas managed by the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism. It is located on top of Petit Jean Mountain next to the Arkansas River in the area between the Ouachita Mountains and the Ozark Plateaus .
A unique artistic feature built by the CCC are a series of what appear to be wooden stumps poking out of Roosevelt Lake, which are actually built out of concrete. These facilities were built about 1935, and form a subset of park's surviving CCC architecture. [2] The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. [1]
The Petit Jean River is a 113-mile (182 km) river in west-central Arkansas.The river rises in the Ouachita Mountains in northern Scott County; it flows through Logan County and Yell County, defining the border between Yell County and Conway County before reaching its mouth at the Arkansas River north of Petit Jean State Park.
Petit Jean #4 (3CH125) is a pictograph depicting a beaver. [8] Petit Jean #5 (3CN126) is a highly abstract pictograph where it is unclear exactly what it represents. [9] Petit Jean #6 (3CN127) has rayed pictographs that are stylistically similar to those found in the Pictograph Cave in Stone County, a connection that is not well understood. [10]
