CALS administers the degree programs of the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS). IFAS is a federal, state, and local government partnership dedicated to develop knowledge in agriculture, human and natural resources, and the life sciences and to make that knowledge accessible to sustain and enhance the quality of human life.
The college is unique in that the majors that are offered are inter-disciplinary in nature. As of 2021, there were more than 2,900 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the college. [ 2 ] In 2024, the College of Health and Human Performance generated $13.5 million in research expenditures.
In the 2006-2007 academic year, the department awarded 49 undergraduate degrees. The department offers the following graduate degree programs: Master of Science (with thesis), Master of Arts (with report), and Doctoral Degree. In the 2006-2007 academic year, the department awarded 52 graduate degrees.
In the 1950s, the University of Florida began enrolling women, and in 1955, the first woman graduated from the college with a master's degree in chemical engineering. In 1957, nuclear engineering was established as a department, and in 1959, the university's 10,000-watt nuclear training reactor became Florida's first critical reactor.
The college has more than 6,900 students (Fall 2021), including more than 2,400 graduate students. A majority are women, 26% are underrepresented minorities and 8% are international students. In addition to the Gainesville campus programs, the college offers baccalaureate degrees online and at four UF/IFAS research and education centers.
