Cadillac Place, formerly the General Motors Building, is a landmark high-rise office complex located at 3044 West Grand Boulevard (between Casa and Second Streets), in the New Center area alongside the Detroit River, of downtown Detroit, Michigan, in the Great Lakes region of the Midwestern United States.
Downtown: Built in 1927 by John J. Barlum, the Barlum Tower was the first building outside of Chicago or New York to have 40 floors. The tower was part of an effort by Barlum (along with the nearby Lawyers Building, also on the Register) to rebuild Cadillac Square. From 1923 to 1996, General Motors maintained its world headquarters in New Center (in what is now Cadillac Place) before relocating downtown to the Renaissance Center; before becoming a division of GM, Fisher Body was headquartered in the Fisher Building. Both Cadillac Place and the Fisher Building are National Historic Landmarks.
The Fisher Building is a 30-story office building designed by Albert Kahn.It was built in 1928, constructed primarily of limestone, granite, and marble.It was designated a National Historic Landmark on June 29, 1989, has been nicknamed Detroit's largest art object. [2]
